Carry Less. Move More. (Underrated travel hacks to travel light)
Share
Most travel hacks and blogs are about what else you should be carrying, that one gadget, that one bag, but after I traveled for a full week Internationally to London in a small 18L laptop backpack, I understood what actually works.
1. Travel as light as you can
- "STOP THINKING ABOUT WHAT IFs", because there will always be another one waiting, what if my shoes get wet?, I should carry an extra one. (but what if the other one gets wet too?), some problems need not be solved until they arrive!. This mindset alone saves you so much more space and weight.
2. Take a smaller toiletry bag
- almost all of the people I have travelled with carry about every toiletry they have in the original packaging, it is a lot better if you have designated smaller bottles for travelling or get sachets for products you are only going to use once or twice. (You can shampoo a day before you depart and the day you come home and carry only one sachet for the middle of the trip if its a full week of trip, you need not carry a 500ml bottle of shampoo with you!).
3. Try going cabin only
- Most people believe that if you check in your luggage, you will be hands free the entire flight, but you don't carry your bags even you take them with you, but if you do take your bags in the cabin, you don't have to wait to collect your luggage, you don't have to worry about your belongings getting damaged, you don't have to count them and you don't have to deal with lost luggage!. And, the carrying problem? well that is actually so much about how much and how you carry things, so try packing light and going cabin only. You will have a much quicker withdrawal from the airport hassle.
4. Don't carry things you can buy and dispose
- I know people think why to waste money on things you have already, I believe if you can avoid carrying things that are disposable and travel freely without the extra weight. Paying for a bottle of water is much more affordable than complaining because you carried a heavy steel one.
5. Try carrying only one pair of shoes
- If you have a versatile pair of shoes, that is the only footwear you should be taking with you because no other thing takes as much awkward and unwanted space as a pair of shoes in your bag, plus if its just a casual vacation, it is so much easier to just clean them up using a tissue and just go rather than at the end, worry about where to keep your souvenirs.
